Swerver Rooi-Groon Semillon

Rooi-groen (‘red-green’) is an old Afrikaans colloquialism used by farmers in South Africa to describe the color-changing ability of Semillon, widely thought to be an old-vine phenomenon. Winemaker Jasper Wickens and his viticulturist wife Franziska have produced this 100% Gris from a vineyard planted six years ago with cuttings from a block dating back to the 1960s. Thanks to partial skin contact, it has a shimmering copper-pink hue.

Appellation: Swartland, South Africa

Grapes: 100% Sémillon Gris – ABV 13.5%

Tasting notes: On the nose there’s gingered peach, orange, honeycomb and white blossom. Nectarine, red apple and pink grapefruit fill the palate, complemented by soft acidity and a gently savory finish.

Rainbow’s End Merlot

“Rainbow’s End” is the name of the Malan family’s wine estate near Stellenbosch. It is a name that conjures up associations, and among these are the divine promise of sunshine after rain, of commitment to the earth, of a destination and a pot of gold. Our winemaker, Anton Malan, treasures Rainbow’s End’s unique terroir. He has no desire to place our wines into a specific category of conventional wine style (such as Old World or New World styles). We treat each vintage year separately and make what the season and the specific terroir of a specific vineyard block offers.
Appellation: Cape Agulhas, South Africa
Grapes: 100 % Merlot – ABV 14%
Tasting notes: Dark deep crimson color. Aromas of blueberries, ripe plums and faint spiciness towards the end. Full velvety mouth-feel with hints of berry compote, mulberries and ripe plums. This is a well-structured wine with rounded tannins balancing out opulent fruit and a long lingering finish.
