Special ~ Wine Tasting & Meet the Winemaker
Let’s welcome Justin and Rosemont wines to Concord!
The selection for this tasting is a new producer to North Carolina and Cellar Door Wine Shop.
Rosemont of Virginia
The 450 acres that make up the Rosemont Estate has been in the Rose Family since 1858, with the home place dating back to the mid-1700s. Over generations, our farming operations have included vegetable farming, a peach orchard, beef cattle, dairy farming, and commodity crops such as hay, tobacco, corn, and soybeans.
Traminette ~ 2024
Traminette is a hybrid of the Gewürztraminer grape from Germany but tends to grow a bit better in our hot and humid climate of Southern Virginia. While many Traminettes that you’ll find are semi-sweet, we like to keep our Traminette dry, giving it a crisp finish. Ours features aromas of grapefruit, green papaya, linalool, and lemon which leads into a smooth finish.
Appellation: VA
Grapes: Traminette
Tasting notes: A dry white wine with aromas of grapefruit, green papaya, and lemon. Light bodied with a clean finish.
Pairing: Pair with seafood, and we especially enjoy it with Virginia oysters! It also goes well with spicy foods such as Thai, sushi, or a light summer salad.
Extra Brut Sparkling Rosé ~ 2023
[95 pt. Rating + Rosé Wine of the Year from the 2024 Sommelier’s Choice Awards]
The 2023 vintage of our Extra Brut Sparkling Rosé is perfect for the warmer weather! It’s made similar to our still Rosé, and in the Charmat method. As always, it is unfiltered with no dosage added, giving it a refreshing crisp finish.
Appellation: VA
Grapes: 100% Chambourcin
Tasting notes: Flavors of strawberries, grapefruit, and cranberries, and finish with a mouthwatering acidity. This is a great wine for celebrating, but also for an everyday sipper!
Pairing: Pair just about any type of cuisine.
Cabernet Franc ~ 2022
A favorite among wineries in Virginia, Cabernet Franc is a grape that really showcases Virginia’s unique climate and soil conditions. On our estate, we find that we have soils that are optimal for growing a spicy, fruit-forward Cabernet.
Appellation: VA
Grapes: 100% Cabernet Franc
Tasting notes: This boasts aromas of cherries, leather, dried persimmons, and violet undertones wrapped in well-structured tannins with a smooth velvet finish.
Pairings: This wine pairs well with any red meat, especially one that’s been nicely peppered and thrown on the grill.
Kilravock ~ 2022
The name Kilravock comes from the castle in Scotland which has served as the seat for the Rose family since 1460, and to where we can trace our ancestry. We chose to use this name for our signature red wine blend, allowing us the opportunity to make the best wine possible from each vintage, hand-selecting the barrels that we feel produce the best wine. It also allows us to use any grapes that we have available to us to make the best blend, not just limiting us to Bordeaux varietals.
Appellation: VA
Grapes: 43% Merlot, 35% Petit Verdot, 22% Cabernet Franc
Tasting notes: Aromas of black raspberry, dark chocolate, figs, and violet. It’s a bold wine with strong, drying tannins. Well balanced with velvety, lingering tannins, this is a wine to hold onto for years to come.
